Boston, MA (PressExposure) July 03, 2014 -- Igor Kaltashov, Professor and Graduate Program Director of Chemistry at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst will give a presentation on, "Emerging Mass Spectrometry-Based Methods for Characterization and Quantitation of Complex Protein Therapeutics" at the Protein Expression, Purification & Characterization Conference to be held on October 23-24, 2014 in Boston, MA by GTCbio.
The structure of protein drugs is critically important for their efficacy and safety, placing a premium on the ability to characterize it at various levels (from sequence to conformation) not only at the quality control stage, but also throughout the discovery and design stages. Biological mass spectrometry (MS) offers a variety of approaches to study structural properties of these complex products and has already become a default tool for characterizing the covalent structure of protein therapeutics, including sequence and post-translational modifications. In recent years, MS was also enjoying a dramatic growth in popularity as a means to probe conformation and dynamics of protein drugs. MS-based methods are also increasingly applied to study pharmacokinetics of biopharmaceutical products, a field that was dominated traditionally by immunoassays. This presentation highlights recent developments in MS-based methods of characterization of biopharmaceutical products with particular emphasis on new techniques that can be used to characterize highly complex protein drugs.
The Protein Expression, Purification & Characterization Conference will focus on the expression of difficult proteins, new methods of purification, extended characterization of production cell lines, the production of reagents for biologic programs, and analytical tools and computational methods.
