Austin, Texas (PressExposure) November 10, 2010 -- Ihealthinsurancetexas, Inc. CEO, Gream McLauren, believes that Texas does not have enough doctors to cater to the new beneficiaries of health plans post reforms. He has stressed the importance of having more primary care physicians in the state.
Gream McLauren, the CEO of ihealthinsurancetexas, Inc., has expressed his concern about the shortage of doctors and other healthcare service providers that the state will face once the health reforms are in place. Similar sentiments have also been echoed by Dr. Larry Kaiser, the president of the University of Texas Health and Science Center.
The state has world class healthcare facilities, but does not have enough doctors to cater to all those who are newly insured after the Affordable Care Act makes it compulsory for every resident in the state to own medical policies.
According to McLauren, "The country will need at least another 45,000 doctors in the next ten years, especially physicians and family doctors who provide primary and preventive healthcare." He stressed on the need for more interns, pediatricians and family doctors, without whom the quality of healthcare will suffer.
Dr. Kaiser has said that he believes the providing healthcare facilities to Texans is a team effort. "I think you are going to find teams, physicians, nurse practitioners and doctor's assistants, who are providing care."
Citing the reason why Texas falls on the number of doctors adequate to cater to the Texan population he said, "There are plenty of people entering medical school in Texas, the problem is, there aren't enough residency spots for them once they graduate, so they leave the state, and sometimes they don't come back here to practice."
