Kansas City, MO (PressExposure) March 17, 2011 -- A recent report on CNN states if Texas lawmaker, Debbie Riddle has her way, employers of unauthorized immigrants in Texas shall face up to two years in jail and a fine of up to $10,000. Illegal immigration is a sensitive issue not only in Texas, but throughout the United States, as illegal immigrants cost taxpayers about $100 billion annually. The United States is one of the most immigration friendly countries in the world. It has several policies that help people obtain citizenship.
The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services Bureau are responsible for granting citizenship and non- immigrant visas. Non-immigrant visas, H-1B visa and L1 visa programs have been very popular among skilled foreign professionals seeking entry into the United States. Recent legislations, however, have made the process of applying for these visas difficult.
"An L1 visa is basically a non-immigrant visa, or a temporary work visa that allows employees of international companies to come and work in the United States if they are going from one company that is located in a foreign country to the same company that is based in the States. The L1 visa can also be used if the foreign employee is coming to the States to open a new branch of the foreign company. This visa was introduced to help American companies facilitate the entry of skilled professionals. With an L1 Visa, applicants are allowed to work for the company which sponsored the L1 Visa, and, later, apply for a green card, "says Mr. Leon Versfeld, of Versfeld and Hugo, a company that provides immigration assistance to individuals and foreign corporations across the world.
"The economic downturn has led to reforms on the H-1B and L1 Visa programs. The latest being a regulation that requires employers to honestly make an attempt to recruit local workers before using the H-1B and L1 visa program. Several companies in genuine need of skilled, foreign workers are likely to be affected," adds Mr. Leon Versfeld.
An immigration law clinic can help with immigration questions. Immigration law clinics also give support to companies in helping them to understand the latest regulations, and the regulations' impact on companies that employ skilled foreign professionals.
