Philadelphia, PA (PressExposure) July 10, 2009 -- Bruce S. Marks made a presentation on âChallenges Based on Impropriety After the Release of An Arbitration Awardâ at the Fourth CIS Local Counsel Forum in Kiev, Ukraine, on June 24 through 26, 2009. This is Marksâ third presentation since 2006 at the forum, which is a large scale network of the international legal community and the local counsel law firms of the CIS economic region. The mission of the forum is to create joint business opportunities and long term cooperation between international law firms and law firms which maintain offices in CIS countries. This year's program was devoted to one major idea: "Legal Services & Business" - how we, as practicing lawyers, can make a positive impact on our clients' businesses, what business needs from us, and what we can do to make ourselves more useful and productive for our clients. Marks, Sokolov & Burd represents both large Western, Russian, and Ukrainian clients, among others, in the region.
International law firms working in the region, typically have offices in Europe. However, these firms often have clients in the CIS countries. A cooperative effort between the local law firms and international firms allow the international firms to aid their clients without establishing their own office in CIS countries, such as Russia and Ukraine, where Marks, Sokolov & Burd maintain offices. Local firms are entering the international market as well, and the cooperation between the local and international firms provides education and experience for both sides. Until the inception of the forums, international firms had difficulty in finding competent, reliable, local counsel. The forum provides the opportunity for the local firms to present themselves to the international legal community, and for the networking necessary for both sides to begin establishing relationships.
Both sides gain valuable experience and forge relationships important to conducting business in the international law arena in the future. The advantage of this fledgling network is that it results from human communication and is composed of the people who have actually met each other. Marks, Sokolov, & Burd works with many law large firms including ones from Canada, England, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States.
