Atlanta, GA (PressExposure) May 11, 2009 -- Stevee Ashlock, International Trial Consultant, joins the force of the FBI Citizens' Academy. Earlier this year, she was nominated and accepted for this exclusive organization, which is in its ninth year. This year, approximately twenty-five local Atlantans were selected, each representing business and community leadership and the desire to enhance community relationships with the law enforcement agencies. All nominees must undergo a background check and get an interim security clearance.
Ms. Ashlock, owner of The Trial Experts, had the unique opportunity to experience first hand some of the complex challenges facing the FBI Special Agents. The FBI Citizens' Academy consists of an eight week training program, beginning mid-February with completion mid-April. Training covers topics, such as, counter terrorism, espionage/foreign spies, cyber crime, violent crime, mortgage fraud, drug enforcement, civil rights/hate crimes, crime scene/evidence collection, expert witness testimony, crimes against children and firearm weapons.
Upon conclusion of training, graduation was celebrated at Sugo's Restaurant in Roswell, Georgia. Jaclyn Zappacosta, Assistant Special Agent in Charge, hosted the event. Graduation certificates were presented by Gregory Jones, Special Agent in Charge, and assisted by Teresa Westbrooks. Former graduate and alumni member, Randy Travis, Investigative Reporter from Fox 5, was the guest speaker.
"My experience with the FBI Citizens' Academy was extremely enlightening and educational. All the FBI Special Agents involved in this program were tops in their area of expertise, " Ashlock proclaimed. "I met some incredible people. I especially enjoyed collecting the evidence at the crime scene. Firearms training was exhilarating, too!"
All FBI Citizen's Academy graduates are encouraged to join the FBI Citizens' Academy Alumni Association (FBI CAAA). Although the FBI CAAA is a distinct and separate entity from the FBI, it operates under their umbrella and overseen by FBI members. It is a community based and supported organization. As ambassadors, all members are dedicated to promote a safer community and educate locals about federal law enforcement issues and situations.
