Covington, LA (PressExposure) February 17, 2009 -- Chances are if you've had anything to do with file-sharing in the past ten years, you've come across "Rar" files. Rar has become widely used as a method of "packaging" or compressing data into archive files in order to make it faster and easier to transmit. The problem is, once you've downloaded one or more Rar files, you need a way to "unpack" the data in order to use it. Harmony Hollow Software has introduced a new, handy utility that does this simply and efficiently...and makes it fun, too.
Unlike other complicated and possibly expensive programs that were designed to create, manage, and extract Rar files, RarMonkey does one thing and one thing only: extracts or unpacks Rar files. For most casual file-sharers, this is all that is needed. Also, the program is completely free to download and use.
If you're familar with Rar files, and have the need to extract them often, you'll notice right away that RarMonkey is unlike all other utilities of its kind. Aside from it's fun, attractive interface, the program offers a handy set of features that make it simple to use yet versatile and powerful. For instance, if you have downloaded several Rar archives that have been protected using the same password, and you want to extract them all in one easy step, you can enter the password one time during the process and specify that it be used for all subsequent files in that operation so that you don't have to enter it for every archive being extracted.
Also, for convenience, RarMonkey can optionally integrate with the Windows Shell, adding a new item to Explorer's context (right-click) menu. This lets you to select any amount of Rar files, right-click, and select the menu item to extract them all in one easy step. The program can also associate itself with Rar files so that it becomes the default program with which to open them. This allows you to double-click any Rar file on your computer and start extracting it with RarMonkey automatically.
