Burnham, United Kingdom (PressExposure) October 26, 2010 -- The medal was presented to Ray Hammond by Italian government minister Giuseppe Pizza, Secretary of State for Education, at a ceremony organised by the Pio Manzü Research Centre in Rimini, Italy on October 17th 2010. The diploma citation presented to Ray Hammond and signed by President Mikhail Gorbachev, President of the Pio Manzü Centre, states:
"The Pio Manzü Centre is delighted to honour Ray Hammond for his constant commitment to research and for his stunning speculations about the future enlightened by scientific knowledge and an evident concern for humankind."
Commenting after receiving the award, Ray Hammond said: 'I am proud and humbled to be honoured by the Pio Manzü Centre and the Italian Government. I am also very pleased that the role futurology has to play in encouraging sustainable human development has been recognised."
Other recipients of Italian Government medals presented at the recommendation of the Pio Manzü Centre include Professor Richard Dawkins, HRH Princess Diana, Professor Manuel Castells, Mrs Suzanne Mubarak, Dr. Vandana Shiva, Professor Ilya Prigogine, Robin Hanbury-Tenison, Professor Martha Nussbaum and Professor Ngugi wa Thiong'o.
