Treasure Beach, Jamaica (PressExposure) July 09, 2009 -- Treasure Beach, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, known for Calabash literary festival, community tourism, and for its laid back atmosphere, now adds Jazz Treasures at Two Seasons Guest House â the 2009 south coast leg of the recently concluded Jamaica Ocho Rios International Jazz Festival. Held on the expansive lawn of Two Seasons Guest House, situated down a lane between Frenchmanâs Bay and Billyâs Bay (two of the several bays in Treasure Beach), stars glistened in the night sky and also shone on stage, with the likes of Desi Jones and Friends and Karen Smith.
Mutabaruka set the tone with selections from his extensive jazz collection as the audience took their seat, anticipating an evening of musical treasures. And they were not disappointed. The show started with the home-grown Shane drummers, three teenagers â two of them twin brothers â who show promise of becoming as great at drumming as is Desi Jones. Then it was time for Desi and Friends to shine. Rupert Bent (guitar), Christopher McDonald (keyboard), Vivian Scott (trumpet), Dean Barnett (steel pan), Adrian Henry (bass), vocalist Winsome Benjamin and Desi served up jazz standards and closed with a Rupert Bent composition, For Ladies Only.
MC for the evening, Gwyneth Harold Davidson, pointed out that Jazz Treasures at Two Seasons Guest House, was made possible through support from businesses in the community coming together. In addition to corporate sponsors Caribbean Producers Jamaica Limited, distributors of Yellow Tail wine, Appleton Estate, and Juici Patties, support for Jazz Treasures came from Button Bay Beach Getaway, Jakeâs Resort, Sunset Resort and Villas, Taino Cove, Treasure Beach Hotel, Treasurebeach.net, Treasure Tours, and C. A. Parchment and Son Hardware.
Jamaicaâs song bird, Karen Smith, completed the treasure trove. Ever cheerful, Karenâs crisp, melodious voice filled the night and captivated the on-lookers. At the end of it, many called on Two Seasons proprietor, Christine Marrett, to do it again next year.
The show was recorded by Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica. View photos at http://treasurebeach.net/guide/pg/gallery/default.cfm?D=721
