Join AVAC(R) For Day of Health, Fitness and Fun!

San Jose, CA (PressExposure) January 08, 2010 -- On Saturday, January 16, the Almaden Valley Athletic Club (, (AVAC), will open its doors for a free day of family-friendly activities designed to get community members warmed up for a healthy and fit 2010. AVAC’s open house ( will feature specialty fitness classes and mini-health assessments, including blood pressure and body fat testing. The Red Cross will share disaster preparedness tips and a team from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department will offer free child fingerprinting. In honor of National Blood Donor Month, The Stanford Bloodmobile will be on site to collect blood donations from able attendees.

“AVAC continues it s commitment to providing health and wellness activities and information to the San Jose community,” said Joe Shank, Owner and CEO of AVAC. “Our goal is to empower attendees to adopt a safe, fit and healthy lifestyle for the new year while giving back to the community.”

Event activities are designed for all ages and fitness levels. Attendees may participate in the following activities:

(Fast Action Training) • 11:55 a.m.-12:25 p.m. – BOSU Class • 12:15 p.m.-12:30 p.m. – Karate Demo • 12:30 p.m.-1:45 p.m. – Yoga • 1:45 p.m.-3:00 p.m. – Therapeutic Yoga Demo • 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. – Body Fat Evaluation & Blood Pressure Testing • 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. – Running Gait Analysis by AVAC Sports Therapy and Wellness Center • 10:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m. – Blood donations collected by The Stanford Bloodmobile • 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. – Free child fingerprinting from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department • 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. – Disaster Preparedness with the Red Cross

Guests may win valuable raffle prizes that include club memberships and free swim and tennis lessons. The AVAC ChildCare Center will offer children’s crafts, Kid’s Yoga, ’snow soup,’ and more.
