Christchurch, New Zealand (PressExposure) December 10, 2010 -- The whole problem with Julian Assanage, is that he dares to confront authority. How dare he! Doesn't he know his place - somewhere behind and inferior to big daddy government and the military. But Julian Assange highlights a problem that will soon be facing most of humanity.
You may have noticed that the world is changing. The internet has opened the door to almost everything and anything, and the devices of social control such as religion, social mores, and government authorities are wincing. People are branching out, experimenting more, expanding their thinking, seeking more information and more answers. Religious authorities, especially conservative ones, are losing the control over their devotees that they once enjoyed. At least some of them, because many people are very happy to be 'good' and 'right' and 'moral' just as they are told to be.
Conservative religious authorities - and some religions are more conservative and authoritative than others - have to become more extreme in order to appeal to the mindsets of those who have been programmed to do as they are told. This means that the cause for which these people must fight or even die has to be robustly and convincingly sold to them. When the cause and meaning is sufficiently urgent and sanctioned by God, these poor programmed robots jump into action. Just as it was with the crusades, inquisition, 9/11 aeroplane high-jacks, the war in Iraq and other good causes sanctioned by God, the good Lord's divine armies get very busy when there is a job to be done on the bad guys.
So how does this all connect to Assange and WikiLeaks. Assange represents the opposite end of the spectrum. Whilst some are busy helping God hold the religious upper hand, Assange and his cohorts are busy, brick by brick, dismantling all the edifices behind which power brokers and control freaks have been able to operate. Authorities have been able to operate covertly because laws have been created to support them doing so. Intelligence organisations operate secretly in order to feed the arbiters of control the information they require in order to stay on top. Of course, if WikiLeaks are successful enough to bring everything out in the open, intelligence agencies will have been made redundant, because we will all have access to everything.
So how would it be if we all knew the truth? Godammit, how would we coerce and manipulate the masses, if the masses knew everything? This dilemma was faced not all that long ago, when someone had the temerity to suggest that the bible be written in a common language that many people could read, and all could understand. I believe that individual lost his life for his trouble, and many are after Assange's blood for essentially the same reason.
We are in a time, when the common people will have the power. Of course we can't expect Zimbabwe, Iran and a few other regimes to reach that point in the near future, but the free world is reaching that point where authorities are going to have to decide where the person-in-the-street can be trusted with all that there is to know.
Good heavens. I wonder what God is thinking. Will He risk losing his position as top dog, or will He be pleased that love, compassion and free will are all that's left for Him promote?
