Kentucky Artist Offers Free Poster With 200 Images of Lincoln To Celebrate Bicentennial

Canmer, KY (PressExposure) February 06, 2009 -- This February, as our country celebrates the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln’s birth, one fellow Kentuckian wanted to ensure that people can picture Lincoln’s fascinating legacy - 200 times over.

Jim Erskine, a Kentucky artist and publisher who lives just a few miles from Lincoln's Birthplace near Hodgenville, wanted to create something truly unique for the bicentennial celebration, but wasn't sure what that would be until he ran across a souvenir of the 1909 Lincoln centennial in an antique shop.

“It was a poster of Lincoln that contained 100 formal portraits of the 16th President,” Erskine said. “I thought: Why isn't there an updated poster with 200 images for his 200th birthday? So I created one.”

The resulting poster is a fascinating mosaic of 200 portraits, photos and cartoon images of Lincoln, as well as statues, monuments, stamps and ephemera all related directly to the 16th President.

“It's a real treasure hunt,” Erskine said of the poster. “Every time you look at it, you spot something new.”

In honor of the bicentennial celebration, Erskine is making the limited edition poster available for free during February, asking only shipping and handling.
