Kumon of Miramar and Reading Is Fundamental Partnership In Literacy Open House Event Proceeds from Students Enrolled in March will Support Children in Need
Miramar, Florida (March 5, 2012) -On March 3, 2012 between 10 am and 2 pm, Kumon of Miramar in partnership with Reading is Fundamental conducted a Literacy Open House Event. Local educator and entrepreneur, Leena Basnyet and RIF coordinator, Barbara Hailey, welcomed families with school age children to this free event celebrating learning. "Reading is essential to the academic and personal development of children, opening their minds to new worlds, people, and experiences," said small business owner, Leena Basnyet. "I'm excited to work with local Miramar families to support such a noteworthy cause."
Dedicated to creating lifelong readers in all children, Kumon's partnership with RIF, the largest children's non-profit literacy organization in the United States, will help bring books to children in need. Kumon of Miramar will donate $10, equivalent to four new books, for every student that enrolls during the month of March. Donations will support RIF's mission to bring books to underserved children. Kumon North America, Inc. is donating a minimum of $50,000 to this cause.
A good number of families attended the event, which included read-aloud sessions featuring books from Kumon's Recommended Reading List. The reading list covered a range of award winning titles, including Blueberries for Sal and Arthur's Eyes. Refreshments, games and prizes were provided during the free event.
Kumon of Miramar class hours are: Mondays and Thursdays from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Students study for approximately a half-hour per subject at 16233 Miramar Parkway, FL 33027, and have daily assignments to complete at home.
