Mumbai, India (PressExposure) September 14, 2009 -- As the worldâs leading manufacturer of high-performance rubber, LANXESS AG is celebrating the centenary of synthetic rubberâs invention by the chemist Fritz Hofmann by holding a high-profile scientific colloquium on Saturday, September 12.
âWith this event we are sending out a signal and giving the innovative high-tech material synthetic rubber the attention that it deserves," says Axel C. Heitmann, Chairman of the Board of Management of LANXESS AG. âSynthetic rubber is a development whose importance for modern society and advanced technology can hardly be overestimated. 100 years after its invention, we are celebrating a material that is still more versatile, flexible and fascinating than almost any other.â
During the all-day event taking place in the Gürzenich Banqueting Hall in Cologne, renowned representatives from the worlds of business and politics such as Professor Ulrich Lehner, President of the German Chemical Industry Association, Didier Miraton, Managing Partner of the Michelin Group, and Professor Andreas Pinkwart, Minister for Innovation, Science, Research and Technology of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, will look at innovative possibilities for the artificially manufactured material and analyze both its market potential and business environment. The presentations will also focus on new forms of application and the future significance of synthetic rubber. The event will round off with a discussion of the individual issues brought up. The colloquium will be moderated by the well-known German journalist and presenter Nina Ruge.
The foundation for synthetic rubber was laid in 1909 by chemist Fritz Hofmann with his discovery of the elastic material methyl isoprene. On September 12 of that year, the Imperial Patents Office granted Elberfelder Farbenfabriken, Hofmannâs employer, patent number 250690 for the âprocess of manufacturing artificial rubberâ.
