Los Angeles, CA (PressExposure) May 09, 2012 -- The Journal of Refractive Surgery recently reported on instances of LASIK surgeries being performed despite the presence of a contact lens in the affected eye. The authors of the study stated that the cause of this oversight was poor communication between the patients and the staff. The authors cautioned surgeons to establish protocols to prevent this type of incident. The practice of refractive surgeon Dr. A. Ebbie Soroudi provides an excellent example of the necessary protocols.
In the May 2012 issue of the Journal of Refractive Surgery, Dr. Ama Sadaka, Dr. Daniel G. Cherfan and Dr. Samir A. Melki made a stunning statement. They said that in two different cases, surgeons performed LASIK surgery while the patients were still wearing contact lenses. They attributed these incidents to poor communication between the staffs of the doctors and the patients. The doctors urged, "We caution refractive surgeons to establish or review current procedures" to prevent accidents like these in their practices.
One refractive surgeon, Dr. A. Ebbie Soroudi, already has effective protocols in place. At his Ophthalmic, Refractive and Eyelid Plastic Surgery Clinic, every patient is screened prior to surgery by Surgical Coordinator Tracie Souve, RN. Ms. Souve has 15 years of experience in plastic surgery and ophthalmology. She ensures that all necessary information is obtained from each patient as part of an thorough intake procedure.
Dr. Soroudi himself conducts a comprehensive examination on each patient. He feels that each person deserves his full, individualized attention. Dr. Soroudi is so meticulous and careful in his work that he routinely gets referrals to correct work done at other clinics.
Dr. Soroudi's patients feel that his experience, training and superior staff make him the best LASIK eye surgeon in practice today. John A., an engineer and one of Dr. Soroudi's patients, had this to say, "From the moment I came into your office, I was so impressed by your entire operation from your receptionist, to yourself, to your tech and surgical nurse."
A leading authority in the field of refractive surgery, Dr. Soroudi is the author of a book on advanced refractive surgery. He has also published several articles in the Journal of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the Annals of Plastic Surgery.
Not content to rest on his laurels, Dr. Soroudi constantly seeks to increase his knowledge and contribute to the advancement of his field. He volunteers at Jules Stein Institute of UCLA. He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the American Board of Ophthalmology.
