Cochin, India (PressExposure) March 4, 2010 -- Cathnews India, a daily email newsletter especially designed for Church people with a promise to enhance Indian Christians’ communication efforts.

The free e-mail is produced for busy Christian leaders and lay people. It will reach them every work day carrying news of the Church in India and throughout the world.

Cathnews India is the newest web publication of Union of Catholic Asian News, Asia’s largest Catholic news network. The free newsletter and website (Cathnewsindia.com) are part a series of country-specific media ventures that UCAN plans to launch across Asian nations, said UCA News Executive Director Father Michael Kelly.

“We aim to bring you news, when it is still news. And we want you start the day abreast of important developments in your Church and society. The India service will enhance communication between Church people across this vast country,� said the Australian Jesuit.

An Asia specific-newsletter, Cathnews Asia was launched in July. It already reaches thousands of Catholics leaders across Asia informing them on a daily basis of the developments in the Asian Church and society.

The new publications are “a significant moment in our development,� said Father Kelly, who began to head the service early this year.

UCA News was launched in 1979 primarily to provide news to Catholic print publications in Asia on Catholic concerns in the region. It is the largest Catholic news service in Asia and one of the biggest in the world.

Such services have to change to be effective in a world revolutionized by internet communication, asserts Father Kelly, who has worked extensively in the media and set up several media ventures in Australia.

“Let’s hope the changes� in UCAN “bring vitality, interactive communication and a freshness to the media at the service of the Church in Asia,� he said announcing the launch of the India service.
