Expert on Brain Injury Travels to Conference

Marilyn Lash M.S.W., a partner in Lash and Associates Publishing/Training Inc. has been invited to be a keynote speaker in March at the Palo Alto VA Hospital's conference on "Finding Resilience after Brain Injury: A Workshop for both Family and Professional Caregivers. Her presentations will include: "Resiliency within the Rehabilitation Team", "Loss, Grief and Coping Among Families", and "Explaining Brain Injury and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder to Children".

With over 35 years' experience working with persons with disabilities and their families, she has been using her social work background and research in pediatric rehabilitation to develop sensitive and practical guides for families, educators, and professionals. Ms. Lash's specialty is helping families cope with the emotional impact of brain injury. As Director and Senior Editor of Lash and Associates Publishing/Training Inc., she focuses on developing user friendly publications for families, educators, and clinicians.

One of her most popular books is titled "Explaining Brain Injury, Blast Injury and PTSD to Children and Teens". In it, she talks about the bond between a parent and a child as unlike any other relationship. When a parent has a brain injury, the family dynamic is changed. Children often feel confused, scared, anxious and angry. No matter what age they are, they will have questions about loss and abandonment. This guide helps parents explain the physical, cognitive, behavioral, social and communicative changes that can follow a brain injury, blast injury or PTSD, and the impact on the whole family.
