New York, NY (PressExposure) November 03, 2008 -- Celebrity dress designers, cake designers, wedding planners and more have all signed up to make this event another success. On September 24, 2009, 10 couples will get married in NYC on Marry Your Baby Daddy Day⢠2009, a free, all expenses paid mass wedding of 10 unwed couples w/children to strengthen 2 parent homes and stabilize communities. Applications are being accepted early to announce the 10 selected NYC area couples on Valentine's Day 2009, but others across the nation won't be left out.
Reid says, "This is about building a sense of self respect and self esteem in Black women. It's about showing them how to stand up for what they need to strengthen their already made families. Men can't marry us if they don't know what our needs and terms are." MYBDD⢠also provides relationship counseling and referrals to a network of relationship therapists.
Reid points out that though MYBDD⢠doesn't only address a Black problem, there needs to be a call for marriage. "It just reflects the need in the community. The facts are the facts and it's saddening, but we're here to bring black love back in style," Reid says, noting that almost 70% of out of wedlock births are black children according to the National Institute of Health.
To date, MYBDD⢠has married 40 baby mamas and daddies. MYBDD⢠has been featured on the CBS Early Show CNN, 20/20, NBC Nightly News, The New Yorker, the Wendy Williams Experience, etc. MYBDD⢠has received several proclamations and citations from the Congressional Black Caucus and The New York State City Council and Mayor Bloomberg.
