Mumbai, Maharashtra India (PressExposure) May 20, 2011 -- Mediangels kicks off its 'Oration Programme' - First Oration on Breast Healthcare in India a Mega Success
The first MediAngels Oration was unveiled in April 2011 at the famous MGM University of Health Sciences Auditorium at Navi Mumbai. The MediAngels Oration is a monthly forum which aims to bring a speaker of international significance to address the general public the physician community and students at tier 2, tier 3 global cities and towns (places where the need for health education is the maximum), and enlighten the stake holders in society on many diseases of public health importance. The MediAngels Oration will be part of MediAngels continuous endeavor to improve the base of health care knowledge amongst the medical community and society at large and help in the prevention, early detection and treatment of these diseases of public health interest. By informing the public of the same, the MediAngels Oration aims to improve knowledge and decrease morbidity and mortality from these diseases globally.
The first Oration was accredited by the Maharashtra Medical Council (the state governmental body for accrediting doctors) as a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program of substance and was awarded 1 CME point for attendance. Doctors in India now need 6 points every year for maintaining their medical registrations. The MediAngels Oration at MGM was attended by more than 150 doctors and students and General public in large numbers. The Special Guest and Speaker was Dr. P Raghuram a world renowned physician and one of the only Indian surgeons, super specialised in treating Breast Cancers. He is presently Director of the KIMS-USHALAKSHMI Center for Breast Diseases, Hyderabad and is part of the MediAngels Global Medical Expert Panel as a Consultant Breast Oncosurgeon.
Breast cancer is the leading cause of mortality in women worldwide. In India, the incidence of breast cancer is on the rise and is slowly assuming the proportions of a health care epidemic. Also, detection of breast cancer tends to occur at a much later stage in India, thereby posing a challenge to maintenance of form, function and even life.
This is because of two major reasons:
1) Lack of knowledge, super-specialist doctors, as well as facilities for early detection of breast cancer, even in tier 2 and tier 3 cities in India.
2) The patriarchal family structure, social shyness and overt reliance of women on other family members (usually male), to escort them for check-ups, etc.
"There are many benefits that a super-specialized eHospital like http://www.mediangels.com can bring to patients. Women, even in areas of India where super-specialists are scarce, can now be in control of their own health, using merely a 'click' from the sanctity of their home." Said Dr. P. Raghuram A key team member of MediAngels.com said, "The challenge in health care in India today is two-fold: to try and provide primary healthcare to the poorest of the poor and at the same time, provide top-class tertiary health care to those suffering from complex diseases, where specialization can save lives. http://www.MediAngels.com, the world's first global eHospital achieves both, through the use of the best doctors globally, who consult over the internet."
MediAngels is the world's first Global eHospital and is a marriage of top-class health care and technology. MediAngels has been developed to provide comprehensive professional specialist medical services and health information to customers, from the best doctors in the world, using new age technology. The MediAngels panel of Global Medical Experts comprises the most qualified and super-specialized health care panel ever chosen, consisting of over 300 doctors in over 85 super-specialties from a global pool of more than fifteen countries. It is thus the most super-specialized health care panel ever assembled in the history of medicine.
The MediAngels Oration programme is scheduled to travel across the length and breadth of India and other developing nations this year. Plans are afoot to make the Oration a truly global platform of quality and super-specialised medical information exchange in keeping with the MediAngels credo of "Changing Health, Changing Lives" and the founders are hopeful of achieving this goal soon.
