Hoffman Estates, IL (PressExposure) May 20, 2009 -- Dr. Joseph Mercola, DO, founder of Mercola.com, the world's leading natural health website, in partnership with proactive integrative wellness veterinarian Dr. Karen Becker, DVM, NMD, has recently launched Mercola Healthy Pets, a free resource dedicated to providing information and solutions to pet owners that will allow their pets to live longer and healthier lives.
At Mercola Healthy Pets, pet owners can get the latest news and tips on holistic pet care, including information on nutrition, exercise, behavior, grooming and more from Dr. Becker, who combines the proactive, integrative and wellness approach to create "lifestyle medicine" for pets.
Proactive veterinary medicine involves identifying and removing the lifestyle and health obstacles that pets face before disease occurs, Dr. Becker explains. This is in response to the common practice of reactive medicine by most veterinarians in the United States, who wait for symptoms to occur and often treat them without addressing the root cause.
On the other hand, integrative medicine recognizes that there are many ways to unlock the healing potential of pets, while wellness medicine is a new concept in veterinary medicine advocating intentional lifestyle choices that release abundant health that converts a "surviving" pet into a thriving and vibrant pet.
Dr. Becker, who has over a decade of experience as a veterinarian, started caring for animals as volunteer at a local humane society in her native Iowa. She majored in veterinary medicine at Iowa State School of Veterinary Medicine and in wildlife and international resource management at University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. She is also certified in veterinary acupuncture and veterinary homeopathy.
Led by Dr. Becker's efforts, Mercola Healthy Pets aims to become a one-stop resource for pet healthcare. Mercola Healthy Pets understands the important role pets play in their owner's lives. "I am excited to partner with pet owners in order to provide abundant health to the animals in their care," Dr. Becker enthused.
