Mumbai, India (PressExposure) September 22, 2009 -- Mumbai, September 22, 2009: Dr. Selvam Daniel, Managing Director, ECOCERT India, an affiliate of the eponymous French global certification MNC, has said increasing number of Indian entities had been looking at the $7 billion global organic cosmetics industry. He was speaking at a convention on organic cosmetics at the Taj President in Mumbai.
"The mind-blowing growth in the global organic cosmetic industry continues with the number of product launches increasing from 615 products in 2002 to about 2000 products last year," said Dr Daniel. "The US, the UK, France, Canada and Japan are the top five organic cosmetics markets." ECOCERT is the trusted global name in certification of organic food, cosmetics and textiles.
Dr R Govindarajan, Principal Scientist - R&D, The Himalaya Drug Company, said "In Europe, anything organic sells as the people there know that such products are safe for human beings as also Planet Earth and its flora and fauna. As a result, there is increasing demand for organic cosmetics certification as the consumers would like to be sure they are buying real organic products."
Dr Govindarajan urged Indian cosmetic companies to increase their focus on technology and processing. "After China, India is the most bio-diverse country," he said. "Today every kind of natural solvent is available in the India market. The situation is fast improving for the Indian organic cosmetic industry. They are in a position to command higher margins while increasing their global and India market share rapidly."
Similar conventions had been organized for the food and the textile sectors at the Taj President in Mumbai.
