New Braunfels, TX (PressExposure) February 01, 2010 -- Students confused about the many options available, what college major to choose or what school will provide the best education to support a career direction, can now turn to NB Careers, offering services that get to the heart of the matter locally in New Braunfels, TX and nationally. Services are offered in person, via phone. Shell Mendelson, MS., leverages her 20 years of experience in the field of Career Counseling, together with over ten years as a CEO-Founder and franchisor of the internationally renowned children's art franchise, KidzArt.
"Very often, parents and students do not realize that they have made the wrong college major or career choice until it is too late" says Mendelson. "Students finish college only to have switched majors 2-3 times or take the first job that comes along that often has nothing to do with their studies in college, or they drop out." The result can be frustration and quite often, additional debt.
Although there is a great deal of career information available, much of it does not deal with the individual in the true sense, identifying all areas of what makes up his or her ideal career or work. This is a process that requires soul searching, writing and time. Often the only information available is through tests that provide computer generated job titles. The deeper work of career exploration beyond choosing a job title is rarely, if ever addressed.
"I hear over and over how important the deeper work is and how often students just don't know where to start identifying what they are passionate about or are not provided with the resources, and often fall between the cracks," reports Mendelson. High School and College Career Centers, while invaluable resources, often do not have the time necessary to do the more personal counseling that should occur before making a decision about a college major or work that fits their preferences, personality and lifestyle.
Once the student graduates, he or she is often at a loss for how to apply what they have learned to a real job that is satisfying on every level. "What I've found in offering these services is that the most effective outcome results from a personal, guided approach - with accountability in person or by phone. My goal is to support the career professionals who work so hard to assist students in the school centers, and who are also trained to do the deeper work, but are dealing with too many students who are seeking information about college testing, entrance requirements and the preparation involved."
