Jaipur, India (PressExposure) April 10, 2009 -- Nafisa Ali files nominations from Lucknow
Lucknow. Samajwadi Party candidate Nafisa Ali today filed her nomination papers for the Lucknow Lok Sabha seat. Nafisa, accompanied by her family members went to the District Magistrate and Returning Officer(RO) office at around 12.30 pm after attending a puja at the party`s district office.
SP general secretary Amar Singh and cinestar Sanjay Dutt also reached the spot in support of Ms Nafisa Ali. However, the SP leaders did not hold any public meeting after the filing of the nominations as announced earlier. Nafisa, who was seeking Congress candidature from Lucknow seat, was given ticket by SP and her name was announced on Sunday last.
In the 2004 Lok Sabha election Nafisa contested on the Congress ticket from Kolkata (South) seat against Trinamool Congress president Mamta Banerjee. She achieved third spot after Ms Banerjee and CPI(M) candidate.
Meanwhile the Congress who had waited for the name of the SP candidate from Lucknow has fielded state party president Rita Bahuguna Joshi from this seat, once won by her father and former UP Chief Minister Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna. Ms Joshi, was given a warm welcome here today on her arrival from New Delhi. Shi would be filing her nomination papers tomorrow.
