Denver, CO (PressExposure) February 03, 2014 -- Cead Mile Failte, (A hundred thousand welcomes) from The Denver St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee of Denver, Colorado. Irish eyes are already smiling as the Board of Directors announces changes to the 2014 Denver St. Patrick's Day Parade presented by Bellco Credit Union.
The parade, the largest Irish celebration west of the Mississippi, will step off at its earlier time, 9:30AM (MST) on Saturday, March 15th with new marching orders, literally! The parade will wind through Lower Downtown on its former route BUT REVERSED, it will now begin at the corner of 19th and Wynkoop, turn left on 17th Street to Blake Street. It will march east on Blake and disband at 27th and Blake at the Coors Field parking lot.
An estimated 350,000 people lined the streets of the Mile High City to enjoy the 51 year old parade in 2013. New York and Chicago have some stiff competition when the Irish spirit is unleashed right here in Denver.
This year's theme, Sweet Home Colorado, celebrates the quality of life in our beautiful state and honors the Irish culture. Of course, you don't have to claim Irish lineage to celebrate. We come together from a variety of communities and backgrounds, united on that day to celebrate the Irish heritage.
Grand Marshal of the 52nd annual Parade is Jon Chandler, award winning musician and 7th generation Colorado native. Named "Best Living Western Musician" by True West Magazine and winner of the Spur Award for Best Song from the Western Writers of America, Jon's music depicts the history of the contemporary west. He is also a Spur Award-winning author of Western fiction, a contributor to several magazines, and the voice of the Historic Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs, CO. He will lead the participants, over 10,000 marchers and 200 entries including pipe bands, step dancers, floats, police, fire and emergency service agencies, military, equestrians, charities, marching bands, businesses and our city's dignitaries in a truly amazing event.
The 2014 Queen Colleen and her Court will reign over the Parade and represent the Irish community. Queen Colleen refers to an Irish maiden whose character reflects compassion, kindness, intellect, social responsibility and of course, her Irish heritage. We are honored to present Denver's 2014 Queen Colleen, Miss Aryana Jackson. The 2014 Court members joining her are Chelsea Peterson, Kally Johnston and Danielle Sheehan.
The Parade Committee is pleased to report that Bellco Credit Union has generously agreed to continue their partnership with the Parade and again join as the presenting sponsor for the 52nd annual event. The parade depends on many sponsors in various capacities, and we appreciate our dear friends of the Denver Irish Community.
