Eugene, Oregon (PressExposure) December 31, 2009 -- House of Penguin Book Design, a leader in the creation, production, and online distribution of Trade Paperback books, is now offering its services directly to authors and small press publishing houses.
The Oregon based book design firm is, for the first time, making its catalog of services available directly to writers, authors, and small press publishers. House of Penguin Book Design continues to develop high quality book production while keeping its costs and therefore the clients' production charges some of the most reasonable in the business.
"We're totally in tune with any technical developments and implement them as soon as they become available," says Chief Production Manager Joachim Alexander. "And now, because of some equipment and production developments we've put into motion, we're now able to expand our services directly to the authors."
The number one complaint from authors who choose to self publish and avoid the typical publishing route is that once they have printed their stock of books, it is very difficult to obtain meaningful distribution. In these corporate driven times when there are a handful of retailers, and just two major distributors controlling the bookselling business, it is increasingly difficult for new or unrepresented authors to get their books into selling venues where readers can purchase them.
"This is where House of Penguin Book Design can enter the picture and create a seamless experience for the fledgling or experienced author," Alexander continues. "We have the ability to not only produce industry standard books but we also have the ability to place them in the best online marketplaces and collect and distribute payments from sales as well." Alexander says that the internet has created a level playing field for authors "as long as the playing field is exploited in the best possible way. And that's what we specialize in."
Alexander says that in addition to consumer sales online, purchasers for libraries around the world are also connected to their distribution network. "Of course we place authors on the number one bookseller of the world, Amazon.com. And in addition, they're sold at BN.com (Barnes & Noble), borders.com, and internationally through WHSmith.com. But one of the largest sales platforms is to libraries, and we make certain our clients are represented there as well."
All that aside, one of the primary benefits of working with House of Penguin Book Design is that there are never any minimum order requirements for Trade Paperback printing. The initial fees that are charged to the client are for design, pre-press preparation, cover design, and distribution setup. Then, when the client is ready to order any number of books, House of Penguin prints them and ships them out. When orders arrive from online sales, Penguin fulfills those orders and collects payments on behalf of the author or publisher and forwards a statement and the payments on a monthly basis.
