Pittsburgh, PA (PressExposure) February 06, 2009 -- Creator of the New Teacher Resource Center, ESL educator and freelance writer Dorit Sasson advocates for the new teacher population in order to provide them with pertinent information on classroom management, teaching tips, strategies for classroom organization, tips for time management and lesson plans, preparing lessons, and parent contact. Seasoned teachers can continue to add to and brush up on their own knowledge with innovative tips and strategies.
Teachers say: âWe need help with classroom management: discipline problems, effective classroom rules, procedures, handling students who donât do the homework, who call out, curse, coming in late, fight, throw things, and attack us.â Experts agree there is a lack of quality mentors who can nurture teachers during the early stages of their careers. Fifty percent of potentially âgoodâ teachers quit the profession because of classroom disruptive behavior. (Jean Johnson, Public Agenda 2/14/05) Eight out of 10 teachers report that there teaching would be more effective if they did not have to spend so much time handling disruptive behavior (J. Johnson)
As a teacher herself, Dorit Sasson understands the need for ongoing professional support and guidance and created the New Teacher Coaching Club which helps teachers become more familiar and comfortable with different techniques for teaching English language learners, using differentiated instruction and appealing to various learning styles. The club also gives teachers coaching support they need for classroom observations and school visits, setting up a collaborative teaching plan and preparing and using assessments to modify instruction. Each month, members of the club receive instruction in the form of four live teleclasses every month. Each teleclass is taught by a successful teacher who knows the âtricks of the tradeâ of lesson planning, classroom management or any other timely topic. They also receive a monthly assignment, designed to become part of their teaching portfolio as well as the opportunity to have their monthly assignment professionally evaluated, so they can modify it before using it with their students and sharing it with other teachers and administration. Teachers also have the opportunity to network daily via an online discussion list with other members of the New Teacher Coaching Club and ask their important questions to guest speakers and teachers. Finally, they also have access to an extensive resource file containing tip sheets, checklists, modification tables, charts, and everything they need to be successful.
