New UK Jazz Radio Station Hits The Internet For A Global Audience

Bracknell, United Kingdom (PressExposure) August 12, 2009 -- RBF, founded in February 2009 by marketing and public relations consultant John Hicks, who has close family connections with Bracknell Forest, broadcasts a range of music and talk shows 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

UK Jazz Now, founded by jazz performer and broadcaster Brian Soundy of Crowthorne, produces jazz radio shows and promotes live blues and jazz music events across the south of England.

RBF has developed a strong global following, far beyond the boundaries of Berkshire, among listeners for its unique range of jazz, blues and world music with a flagship show produced by UK Jazz Now. Despite being a local radio station by nature, RBF has become involved with major jazz festivals across Europe and is an official radio partner of the Marlborough International Jazz Festival and Odiham Jazz Weekend. In addition, RBF is supporting the British Jazz Awards 2009 in October of this year.

The demand for quality programming and live events encouraged Brian, who performs with a number of London and Berkshire bands, to work with John to create UK Jazz Radio, broadcasting jazz of several genre 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Listeners can enjoy the programmes on their computers at work, PC’s at home, wi-fi radios, modern mobile phones, Playstation PSP’s and in-car entertainment systems through Bluetooth enabled hands-free mobile phone kits. The future of internet radio is enhanced by the launch of a new generation of internet-radio equipped car radios and the long-awaited development of a new widget which enables radio streams to be converted to an FM signal.

Feedback from listeners to the pilot transmission has been very positive. One listener summed it up when they said: “The jazz scene in the UK is vibrant and dynamic but it has been crying out for an equally dynamic radio station dedicated purely to jazz. UK Jazz Radio’s schedule and top line-up of presenters represents the best opportunity we have seen in many years”.

UK Jazz Radio has released its new website, http://www.ukjazzradio.com, which will be developed further over the coming months.

Initial test transmissions have brought hundreds of listeners to the site. Brian was surprised at this, he said: “We told a few people within the jazz community, some artists and fellow radio presenters and asked them for their reaction to our pilot shows: Jazz Guitars, Voices of Jazz, London Jazz, Smooth Jazz, New Jazz and Modern Jazz. They seemed to have told their friends and fellow musicians who have all listened in and given us positive feedback. It seems that viral marketing has reached the jazz world!”

The impressive line-up of Presenters on the station contains household names within the jazz world. Zoltan Dekany, Trudy Kerr, Ingrid James, Dave Self, Frank Griffiths, Kai Hoffman, Dave Self plus, of course, the irrepressible Brian Soundy himself. More names will be announced over the coming weeks. The station is trying to live up to their motto: “for jazz people, by jazz people”.

The station’s first live event, under the UK Jazz Now umbrella, is a jazz blues evening on Friday 14th August, at the Jazz Cafe Reading. The September event at the venue, starring Elisa Caleb, is on Thursday 17th September, Details can be found at http://www.ukjazznow.com.
