Guanajuato, Gto Mexico (PressExposure) June 14, 2007 -- ABOUT THE BOOK AND ITS NEED: To sum it up as concisely as possible, more than 99% of the American Gringos who move to Mexican do so based on Mexico as a Concept and not Mexico as a Reality. My book attacks and dispels the false and infatuated concept potential American Expats have about Mexico and will instills a reality based picture of what life as an American Gringo in Mexico is actually like. My book presents the reality of what life is like in Mexico for the American thinking about moving to here for whatever reason. No REALITY BASED how-to guide exists for moving to towns in Central Mexico--an experience vastly different from moving to and living in the traditional gringo enclaves of Puerto Vallarta, San Miguel de Allende, and others. My book provides that guide.
SOMETHING UNIQUE: This book will go beyond the soft-soaping and beyond the song and dance other "expatriation" guides resort to in their prose. Most books on the market dealing with expatriating issues do not mention the difficulties one will encounter when moving to Mexico. Because of my ability in the language, I am able to ferret out the nuances, good and bad, sadly missing in all of the current Mexico expatriation guides. I also stress the vital importance of developing not only a Linguistic Fluency in Spanish but to do so as the key that unlocks the door to Cultural Fluency. I present my discoveries through a travelogue and memoir style of writing.
A PREVIOUS BOOK'S REVIEW:
But the Bowers' book has that ring of authenticity and is squarely aimed at the (for lack of a better cliché) "average Joe" who is looking for a life that is different and/or better and needs down-to-earth practical advice on how an American can make this transition."
