, Singapore (PressExposure) March 20, 2009 -- Novotel Clarke Quay, a 4 Star Singapore hotel , has announced several new green initiatives that build on its enviable status as a Green Globe accredited hotel.
The initiatives include: â¢ Upgrading the hotel's energy efficiency by using excess heat from the air conditioning system to heat the hotel's water. This is also an area where substantial cost savings can be made. â¢ Recycling facilities for both staff and guests â¢ Upgrades to the hotel's air conditioning chilling system, to ensure greatest energy efficiency â¢ Energy saving light bulbs
In 2009, the hotel is following on its drive to participate in social and environmental events, and has announced it will be participating the Earth Hour. Resident Manager Simon Jones Commented that âwe will be turning off all non-essential lighting, including over 401 external balcony lights, and hotel neon lights as part of this initiative, and we will be encouraging our guests to participate in this program in their room as wellâ
The hotel is also investigating the environmental benefit and Return on Investment possible by installing a greywater system to use on the hotel's gardens.
For Heinz Javier Colby, Accor Singapore's regional manager, environmental initiatives make good sense. âWe believe it is our responsibility to the community to ensure that the hotel pursues and environmentally friendly approach to the hotel operations."

These initiatives build on the hotel's esteemed Green Globe status. Novotel Clarke Quay was the first hotel in Singapore to gain the label, which involves committing to a Sustainability Policy, documenting performance outcomes, compliance with relevant legislation and policy, and communicating and consulting with key stakeholders on green issues, including customers.
