Raleigh, North Carolina (PressExposure) March 20, 2012 -- O2 Fitness, North Carolina's premier health and fitness club, is partnering with the Downtown Raleigh Alliance (DRA), an award-winning nonprofit organization created to manage the business improvement district in downtown Raleigh, to offer free outdoor group fitness classes for Triangle residents in downtown Raleigh's City Plaza.
"Shape Up Downtown presents a unique opportunity for O2 Fitness to help the community get fit through outdoor group fitness classes," said Michael Olander, Jr., founder and CEO of O2 Fitness. "Providing Raleigh residents with opportunities to be active and exercise in fun and creative ways is something O2 Fitness strives for throughout our clubs."
Mayor Nancy McFarlane headlined a press conference on Mon., March 19 to announce the partnership.
"It's exciting to announce an initiative that will allow members of the community to take advantage of both Raleigh's beautiful spring weather and our parks," McFarlane stated. "A booming downtown area is vital to Raleigh, and we're appreciative of O2 Fitness and the Downtown Raleigh Alliance for their efforts to bring free outdoor group exercise classes to City Plaza through Shape Up Downtown."
Shape Up Downtown is a direct result of O2 Fitness wanting to provide exciting opportunities for downtown residents and workers to exercise in a unique and sociable way, and partnering with the Downtown Raleigh Alliance was a natural fit.
"Shape Up Downtown is yet another example of our efforts to foster collaborations that benefit our downtown area," said David Diaz, president and CEO of the Downtown Raleigh Alliance. "Partnerships with companies such as O2 Fitness are ideal because both organizations share the same commitment to the downtown area."
The press conference finished with Raleigh's first ever Zumba flash mob, comprised of O2 Fitness members and staff performing Zumba dance moves.
The series of outdoor classes will start on Mon., March 26, 2012 and end on Mon., April 30, 2012.
