MARS ONE is headed-up by Bas Lansdorp, a visionary and Industry-recognized, scientist and technologist that has captured worldwide attention and drawn-in major defense contractors, space agencies, Industry experts and other scientific partners to fuel the concept development phase and realization of his dream.
The mission is to establish an outpost on the planet Mars in 2023 using existing technology from leading Aerospace suppliers, with a select crew that will embark on a one-way, no-return journey.
To support this effort, MARS ONE conducted an Astronaut selection program, which generated over 200,000 worldwide applicants seeking to be a key element of this epic mission.

In a recent New York Observer article, Buzz Aldrin made reference to the MARS ONE effort and other initiatives and said that "people that go to Mars will be our modern pioneers."
MARS ONE continues its feverish effort to generate funds to make the $6 billion mark, which is leveraging ever investment approach including crowd sourcing.
