Nashville, Tennessee (PressExposure) February 01, 2011 -- SoulPreaching.Com has released the findings of its 2010 viewer survey. The survey demonstrates the diversity of the viewers of the website.
The ministerial status of those surveyed was 63.4% ordained clergy. 21.3% were licensed but not ordained. 15.2% were not clergy.
Sherman Cox, founder and director of SoulPreaching.Com, expected that the licensed and non-clergy viewership would be larger. "I created SoulPreaching.com to aid new ministers and trainees to design and preach sermons in the African American Tradition." Said Cox, "But more and more clergy people have expressed appreciation for the work we do at SoulPreaching.com."
In line with this mission of helping new ministers, 52.8% of those surveyed had not completed any formal ministerial training.
The gender makeup is 72.6% male and 27.4% female. "I thought that there would be more women." Cox stated, "But it is not surprising due to the fact that the primary contributor is a man."
It is in the denominational makeup that the interdenominational nature of the website shows. While 44.6% of the readers are Baptists, there is a bit of diversity in the rest of the group.
20.2% are nondenominational and 18.6% were members of Pentecostal denominations. The last denominational group to show in double digits were the Methodists with 10.5%. 4.2% were Adventist and 1.9% Presbyterian.
"This data demonstrates we are addressing a number of different denominational groups. Not surprisingly the Baptists dominate the denominational makeup due to our emphasis on the Black Preaching Tradition." Cox stated. "We have had a lot of difficulty penetrating into Calvinist groups which may explain why so few Presbyterians are visiting SoulPreaching.Com."
The survey was given in September and October of 2010. SoulPreaching.Com is an interdenominational resource created to celebrate and teach the African American preaching tradition.
