Kolkata, India (PressExposure) January 31, 2012 -- Coming from a conservative home, the environment of hotel proved to be a complete contrast for Pali. Nevertheless, the hospitality industry did bring him into contact with people from around the globe and different walks of life, offering a fascinating study of human behaviour across the entire spectrum of society. An Expression of Two Eyes is a product of the experience of all those years.
The day Geeta was married, two men came into her life. One was her husband, Rajesh, who denied her nothing and could think her passionately. The other one was a friend of his, who she heard of at parties she attended, but never chanced to meet. More than a year had gone by and he still remained just a name. Then one rainy night in July at a small gathering, a man entered the room. Intuitively she knew it was he, Anup Khanna.
Set in the seventies An Expression of Two Eyes is not just a love story. It is about four months in the life of Geeta Chawla following her meeting with Anup Khanna. The brief incident takes her through all the many aspects of love and changes her whole outlook to human relationships. She falls in a dilemma, quite insurmountable for a typical middle class Indian housewife. Not at all like the idealistic love-fictions, this one proves to be a modernist venture to a modern woman heart, in the midst of a misty phase of her life.
"[...] Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:"
Thus went Shakespeare in the far back renaissance England. But, is it "an ever-fixed mark" today, in the present Indian cosmopolitan scenario? Does Geeta feel the same passion to her husband, to whom she even is emotionally loyal.? Does her loyalty holds her back to conform to the typical Indian Middle-class society hushing up the voice of her passion? Let the tale tell its tale.
