Hartlepool, United Kingdom (PressExposure) January 28, 2009 -- Overseas property portal Property Abroad has named Slovakia as one of the safest places to make a property investment in 2009. The announcement comes after months of research into European economies, and comparable findings and predictions from other research reports. Les Calvert director of the portal said:
"We, well, me and our research department started looking at European markets in November to try and make early predictions as to where to invest in 2009. It quickly became apparent that the bigger economies were being worst affected by the credit-crunch, and that the smaller, emerging economies in Eastern Europe, which didn't have as far to fall were doing much better. There are a couple of other markets we see doing well in 2009, but we predict Slovakia will be the most robust."
Les went on to give details of what this claim is based on:
"Though we see a rise in unemployment for 2009, the rise will be small, perhaps even smaller than the drop in unemployment we saw last year; meaning unemployment will still be lower than it was in 2007. We also see a slow in GDP growth, but not into negative territory as has already been seen in the larger markets. Slovakia GDP growth was recorded at an incredible 7.1 for 2008, we see it falling to a more sustainable 2-3% for 2009, where it will likely stay for 2010. We predict similar things as above for Bulgaria, but Bulgaria's current account balance is in a far worse state than Slovakia's."
