It takes a sheer amount of brilliance to start from scratch and build a worldwide famous institution which stands out as the No. 1 on a global level. Verghese Kurien, the founder of Amul brand has urbanized it into one of the leading and most flourishing institutions in India for daily products. The Amul model of cooperatives in Anand, Gujarat helped farmers and cowmen in Gujarat not only in employment but also being a part of an accomplished establishment. The model was immensely successful and thus in 1965, the then Prime Minister of India, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, created the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).This program replicated Amul's model on a nationwide basis. Kurien was immediately conferred upon with the prestigious designation of the chairman of the board due to his endeavors in creating the famous Amul brand. Kurien and his team members from Amul broke new grounds in formulating the process of making milk powder and condensed milk from buffalo's milk instead of cow's milk. This was the chief reason for Amul's success towards standing out as the forerunner in dairy products in India. India provided as a strong base for buffalo milk which was the main raw material in India unlike Europe where cow milk is abundant. India's first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru paid a visit to the Amul factory for the inauguration ceremony and embraced Kurien out of admiration for his revolutionary work.
