Lukeville, AZ (PressExposure) June 20, 2009 -- Concluding the Annual General Assembly for 2008, Rescate supporters and volunteers met at the San Carlos Country Club on April 22. Significant progress has been made over the past 4 years, under the leadership of Craig Dudley, President. Some important achievements include:
The award of a special nonprofit status by Hacienda (the Mexican taxing authority) which will make corporate gifts to our emergency medical service fully deductible to the donor company here in Mexico. Our ability to secure such gifts will be very useful in accomplishing the expansion necessary to serve this growing community.
The employment of a new staff director whose highly skilled and enthusiastic approach to the job have built a team of very capable employees who are always willing to go âthe extra mileâ in serving the people of San Carlos. Comandante Jesus Octavio Guerrero was commended for his work.
Increased community confidence in Rescateâs fiscal management, which has inspired several large gifts designated for ambulance replacement, new equipment and a building improvement fund.
In the earlier segment of the Assembly, which took place in January, Operations Director Jim Bowlin reported that infirmary services grew from 2,875 incidents in 2006 to 3,116 in 2007. In the same period, ambulance runs to medical facilities grew from 779 to 902. He told members that on numerous occasions all four ambulances were in service at the same time, and that often local policemen were pressed into service as drivers to enable EMTs to treat patients en route to medical facilities. Construction accidents accounted for much of this growth in service demand. Our staff of eight EMTs is stretched thin on holidays and during peak vacation periods, and is often augmented by volunteers from the community, who have special training in first-responder work.
General Accounts Supervisor Marilu Franklin reported on April 22 that our professional auditors have almost completed the audit for 2007. She presented the budget for 2008 which totals $1,453,127 pesos.
The work of the Rescate Auxiliary in sponsoring the calendar of special events throughout each winter season is vital to the support of Rescate, raising 77% of the annual budget in 2007. Gold Card income and onsite donations from grateful patients make up the balance.
Officers and Directors elected on April 22 for a two-year term are: President, Jose Luis Canale, M.D.; Vice President, Craig Dudley; Treasurer, Gloria Richer; Assistant Treasurer, Carla Rule; and Secretary, Sophia Reid. Marilu Franklin will continue as General Accounts Supervisor, and Board members include Jim Bowlin, Susan Canale, Pat Holloway, Gary Goldstein, Len Manson, Judi Peek, Jan Rains, Brent Wiseman and Matt Young.
