Mumbai, India (PressExposure) September 07, 2010 -- SGS India was awarded a contract to provide Bygging India Ltd, the leading construction company in the chimney and silo field in India, with consultancy services for the construction of chimneys. During the first week of September, SGS will start its operations.
As any construction failures may lead to material damage and personal injury, consultancy services, including Quality Assurance and Quality Control are necessary during the construction of chimneys. However, extensive technical competence and experience are demanded for such services.
Therefore, Bygging India Ltd sought a reliable third-party inspection and testing company and awarded SGS India, known for its extensive experience in similar projects, the contract to provide Quality Assurance and Quality Control for the construction of chimneys at 15 construction sites in India.
The quality of chimneys will be ensured by SGS with respect to defined Indian standards and regulations, such as IS codes and MORTH specifications. The inspection of the construction process will be performed in accordance with a checklist which SGS has already developed for this project in line with approved specifications and standard operating procedures.
A team of at least two SGS experts at each construction site will perform Quality Assurance and Quality Control checks at every 200 mm of the chimney's stage layer and check it for any discontinuities, openings and sizes as well as overall construction quality in terms of form work and material used in the structure.
SGS is one of very few companies with the requisite technical expertise and manpower to supervise chimney construction. Bygging India Ltd will renew annually the contract with SGS in accordance with the client´s requirements. Moreover, SGS operations may be extended to other countries in which Bygging India Ltd executes its work.
