Local and regional winners of the IT Inspiration Awards were announced yesterday by Hitachi Data Systemsâa wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT) and the only provider of Services Oriented Storage Solutions â at a dazzling finale ceremony in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. A total of 23 awards were presented this year representing a mix of industry excellence and personal achievement across 5 categories. The winners were announced in conjunction with the Hitachi Data Systemsâ annual Asia Pacific CIO summit, an event that brought together IT leaders, global thought leaders and brave innovators into a single venue to examine in detail what market recovery means to businesses and IT and the areas organizations around the region should look to succeed during an economic upturn.
âIn the backdrop of the current state of economy, this yearâs IT Inspiration Awards is instrumental in setting new benchmarks and revealing new insights. The nominations highlight the innovative use of storage technologies such as virtualization and thin provisioning to deliver tangible benefits like cost savings, increased sustainability to name a few. Each nomination is significant as it provides a source of key learning for the industry and IT professionals,â said Hubert Yoshida, VP and CTO, Hitachi Data Systems.
âThe worst of the economic crisis may be over but the challenge of adapting to a changing economy still remains. It is innovation, agility and forward thinking that will take businesses to the next level of efficiency, where they start reaping the benefits of a recovery. The IT Inspiration Award nominations showcased these qualities and were an eye-opener on how technology can be leveraged to drive business results,â said Vernon Turner, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Consumer, Telecommunications, Network and Enterprise Research, IDC, and one of the judges for the awards.
The three-day CIO Summit themed âInspire and InnovateâGet Set to Win in the Downturnââwas a melting pot of key insights and ideas on how businesses are preparing for the upcoming economic recovery using key IT strategies and innovations. Over 100 IT leaders from a range of enterprises across the Asia Pacific attended the summit and participated in the discussions on the alignment of storage and business issues. Key topics of discussion included the current state of storage infrastructure and the factors that will shape it in 2010. Interestingly, virtualization and cloud computing dominated the conversations indicating the important role they will play in moulding the industry in following year. One of the highlights of the conference was a presentation on the future of storage solutions in 2025. The presentation by Toshio Nakano, GM, Global Operation, Disk Array Systems Division, Hitachi Ltd, unveiled a clear roadmap on how exciting IT innovations will shape the market and open new business opportunities.
The spirit of the awards and the CIO Summit is captured succinctly by Kevin Eggleston, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Asia Pacific, Hitachi Data Systems: âThe year 2009 might well prove to be a litmus test for the long-term success of a business organization. The economic crisis is a wake-up call for businesses to streamline business process and build competitive advantage using technology. The Inspiration Awards and the conversations generated at our CIO Summit pave the way for companies to build a sustainable business enterprise that can weather any storm.â
