Sheikh Salem Al Ali Al Sabah Informatics Award Winners Announced

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (PressExposure) April 21, 2010 -- Kuwait - Sheikh Salem Al Ali Al Sabah Informatics Award announced the award's winners for 2009. The announcement was made during a press conference held at the headquarters of Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), with the attendance of Dr. Khalil Abul, Director of the Award and Dr. Sanaa Al-Mo'min the arbitration committee coordinator of the award. Each award prize is valued at US$10,000 (AED367, 000).

"I would like to congratulate the winners of this prestigious award and encourage future winners to give their best in the coming years," said Abul in his statement. The winners will be hosted and recognized at a special ceremony that will be held in May, under the patronage of the Emir of Kuwait.

The 'HH Sheik Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Informatics Award' is an annual event, launched in 2001. The event received the patronage and attendance of HH Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait. The panel of judges consisted of 96 specialists from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Syria, Tunisia, Jordan, Iraq and Algeria.

In the category of the 'Arab world there were seven winners who got the Salem Al-Ali Arab Homeland Informatics Award'. The UAE bagged an award for best in 'Governmental field' while Dubai Courts won the Best Service Project in the field of governmental bodies. The Saudi Society for Family and Community Medicine bagged the prize for Best Development Project for its website in the field of civil society.

Egypt managed to bag two awards in the field of Education, Harf Information Technology Company got the Best Educational Project prize for its website 'Harf for Children', while Atef Ibrahim was the winner for his project titled 'mawhopon.net' as the Best Website by an individual.

Syria won two prizes - the Syrian Architecture Bureau for Industrial Supplies won the Best Commercial Project prize in the field of private sector, and Ahmed Al-Khaled, the Best Media and Telecommunications prize titled 'Arab Portal for Technological News Items'. Algerian Mawloud Eissa was awarded the Best Prize in the Informatics Field.
