Virginia Beach, Virginia (PressExposure) May 08, 2009 -- With social networking sites quickly becoming some of the most popular destinations on the web, ThankingOfYou.com creator Nora Firestone felt this was the perfect time to implement her vision for a social networking site of a different flavor. Aptly named ThankingOfYou, the website aims to reconnect friends, family, and strangers by allowing people to post personalized thank yous based on the impact the recipient has had on the senderâs life. By partnering with Virginia web design agency Ciniva Systems, Firestone was able to bring her vision to life, connecting others through her site and the words of gratitude they want to share.
Since the siteâs launch in early March, it has already gathered thanks and praise with over 100 posted thank yous. After registering for free with a simple form, users can create a profile, post personalized thank you messages, create group thanks, and share media with other users across the dynamic site. Although the site accepts donations, it is a free service for the public, and its altruistic mission is a strong testament to the kindness people are capable of.
Firestone, A Hampton Roads, Virginia native who writes for the Virginian-Pilot, started the site after struggling to contact two of her former teachers that had made a large impact on her life. She states she was âtrying to fulfill basic needs: Their need to be recognized and affirmed for how they've made a difference in my life, and my need to express gratitude.â These needs lead her to partner with Ciniva and develop ThankingOfYou.com in response.
Using custom database programming and a new version of Ciniva Systemâs proprietary content management system, the site has a powerful administration backend to match the functionality of the user side. Site administrators can quickly and easily edit site comments, restrict or grant user privileges, and add pages and content to the site without much programming knowledge. âIâm a writer at heart and not much of a web person, so I have to be thankful that Ciniva developed a website that I am capable of running without much outside support,â remarks Firestone.
ThankingOfYou.com is a niche social networking site taking a familiar tradition into the 21st century. Cards and emails can be erased and thrown away, but these thank yous are forever stored for the world to see. With Motherâs Day right around the corner, Firestone hopes the site will see some good traffic in the next few weeks. âThese messages are the gifts of a lifetime â uplifting, revitalizing, and free.â
