Southfield, MI (PressExposure) May 12, 2009 -- The 5th Annual Shumake Scholarship Relays were a huge success in spite of heavy rain and storms. Over 40 kids applied for scholarships as they participated in the track and field competition. The Shumake Relays have a dual focus; the competition highlights both the athletic ability and the academic achievement of students. Prizes were awarded to the athlete on each team with the highest grade point average, teams with high score, and athletes who placed 1st through 8th.
The event was a huge success; not even the rain and storms put a damper on things as the Showdown in Motown went on. Athletes were acknowledged for their talent and skills; good students with academic ability were rewarded as they participated in the event.
Though focused on academics and athletics, anyone with a 2.5 GPA who completed an application was considered for this competitive scholarship. Dr. Robert Shumake, a former Denby High School track star and founder of the Shumake Scholarship Relays is on a mission to provide teens the opportunity to attend college.
Robert Shumake is a noted author who donates proceeds from his book to the Scholarship Relays. Robert Shumake wishes to express his appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the 5th annual relays event. Learn more at http://www.shumakerelays.com
