Melbourne, Australia (PressExposure) February 08, 2010 -- The latest legal and ethic decisions confronting health care professionals in Australia are dissected and assessed in a new edition of Health Care & the Law.
Co-written by Slater & Gordon medical law specialist, Bill Madden, Health Care & the Law addresses the complex legal framework in which health care professionals operate.
"From ambulance officers through to doctors, nurses and scientists, our health care professionals are bonded together within an extensive administrative and legal environment," Mr Madden said.
"Health Care & the Law assists health care professional as they juggle competing interests and their workloads by providing procedural checklists, guidelines and case law examples."
Mr Madden said the fifth edition of the textbook had been extensively updated to reflect the rapid pace of change in health related laws.
The new edition covers changes in areas such as: ⢠The consideration given by the courts to the civil liability legislation applying to negligence ⢠End-of-life decision-making, including recent major decisions ⢠The Commonwealth, State and Territory privacy regimes ⢠The replacement of Work Choices legislation by Fair Work Australia and the new national workplace relations tribunal.
Health Care & the Law was originally written by Meg Wallace in 1991. The fourth and fifth editions were coauthored by Bill Madden and Janine McIlwraith. The textbook has been published by Thomson Reuters.
Bill Madden has been a lawyer with Slater & Gordon since 2001. Based in NSW, he is the National Practice Group Leader for the firm's medical law group. Janine McIlwraith was a former Slater & Gordon lawyer.
