Appledore, United Kingdom (PressExposure) January 06, 2009 -- The Sleepytot Baby Comforter is stunningly simple, a lightly stuffed bunny rabbit with Velcro on paws that open and close so a dummy or teether can be attached to it. There is currently no other product like it on the market. The idea began shortly after Lucy's son, Laurie, was born. "Before this, dummies had barely crossed my mind. In fact, the only thing I did think about them was that I didn't like them much," Lucy recalls. "But at some point during the chaos that was the first few weeks of Laurie's life, I gave him a dummy. It was a massive relief. In an instant he was relaxed and soothed. For a while, Laurie slept really well. He'd have his dummy at sleep times, wake for a feed and then go back off to sleep without any trouble. It wasn't until he was about four months old that he started waking in the night for the dummy. I'd fumble for it in the dark, never understanding how it could just disappear. By the time it was found, we were all completely awake. So I decided to create an easier way to help Laurie find the dummy." The answer was the Sleepytot Baby Comforter. Within a few nights of creating her own, homemade version of Sleepytot, and giving it to Laurie, everyone was sleeping through the night, all night. With this being such a common problem for mums and dads worldwide, It wasn't long before Lucy realised her solution could help thousands of sleep deprived parents. Lucy joined up with her dad, who now works as her business partner, providing financial and commercial guidance. "It's been one hell of a steep learning curve," Lucy says. "I've had a lot of support and guidance from family and friends. They've invested time, money and skills. We sourced a supplier to bring the design to life, who could also guarantee the quality and safety we needed, and found a graphic designer to develop our brand and a very clever web developer. But even with this great team, I've made mistakes, and learned from them! People in the industry have been tremendously supportive and willing to share advice which I've found brilliant." In September, Sleepytot won a Gold Practical Pre-School Award which is much coveted in the industry and shortly after was Highly Commended in the Baby and Child Recognition Awards (Debut Product of the Year and Playtime). Sleepytot has also been endorsed by the Millpond Child Sleep Clinic as an aid to help older babies find their dummies easily and return to sleep by themselves at night. "It's been a rollercoaster of a year," Lucy says. "I set Sleepytot up so I could combine motherhood and a career. It's been more than challenging at times but so rewarding. I have the freedom to manage my work time around the needs of family." Lucy is 8 months pregnant and knows it will be tough in the early moths with a new baby and the business expanding. But she says she's never been happier. "We're over the moon to be doing so well at such an early stage. We're still a little company in Appledore, but we have big plans for 2009!"
