St. George, UT (PressExposure) August 24, 2010 -- In an effort to help reserve valuable water resources, the City of St. George created the Landscape Rebate Program back in May 2008. The purpose of the rebate program was to encourage the citizens of St. George to to conserve water by installing plants and grass that required less water than regular landscaping, installing an irrigation system that used less water or using a combination of both methods. In exchange for making these changes, St. George residents could receive up to $500 as a rebate if they implement both options in the program. This program is set to continue through October 31, 2010 or until funds run out.
The Landscape Rebate Program offers up to $150 to any homeowner who installs new landscaping or chooses to rehabilitate their current landscaping to be more water-friendly. The rebate is available to customers who choose an irrigation system designed by a professional that meets at least one of the following criteria:
- Irrigation Association Certified Irrigation Designer - Landscape Architect - WaterSense Irrigation Label Certified professional
Additionally (or separately), up to $350 is available to any homeowner that chooses to plant moderate or low-use water plants that have been deemed acceptable by Washington County authorities. For a complete list of acceptable plants, please visit the City of St. George's website at http://www.sgcity.org/conservation or the Washington County Conservancy District website at http://wcwcd.state.ut.us/Conservation.htm.
