Gilford, NH (PressExposure) August 22, 2009 -- The Streetcar Company community theater group announces open auditions for their fall presentation of Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Auditions will be held at The First United Methodist Church in Gilford on Sunday and Monday, September 6th and 7th at 7pm, with call backs on Tuesday, September 8th. Those wishing to audition should come prepared to sing a brief song of their choosing, read from the script and participate in a short dance routine. Director J Alward is seeking a 25-30 member cast of men and women aged 16 and older. There are 15-20 solo and speaking parts supported by a large chorus that will include 6-8 children aged 6 and older.
The stage version of Disney's Beauty and the Beast is an adaptation of the 1991 animated feature film, the only full-length animated feature film ever nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. The film was then adapted into the Broadway musical which ran from 1994 to 2007. Set to music by Alan Menken, with lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice the book by Linda Woolverton comes to life.
Based on the fairy tale of the same name about a beautiful woman kept in a castle by a horrific monster, Beauty and the Beast has become one of Disney's most beloved classics. Among those coming to life on the stage along with Belle and The Beast will be Lumiere, the candelabra, Cogsworth, the clock, Mrs. Potts, the tea kettle, Babette the duster, plus Gaston and Lefou, Belle's arrogant suiter and his sidekick. The large chorus includes townspeoples, wolves, dancing plates and silverware.
The Streetcar company is excited with the opportunity to produce this award winning musical and just as excited to be presenting it in Meredith at The Meredith Community Auditorium at Interlakes High School. "We are a community theater company," said Alward, "and Meredith is part of the Lakes Region community that we draw our members and audiences from. The Community Auditorium in Meredith is a wonderful venue and we look forward to utilizing it with this production and perhaps more in the future."
Show dates for Disney's Beauty and the Beast will be November 20th through the 22nd.
