Delhi, India (PressExposure) May 27, 2011 -- Saharasri Subrata Roy Sahara, Managing Worker & Chairman, Sahara India Pariwar, has been honoured by the highest honorary degree, the D. Litt.. by the Lalit Narain Mithila University. Saharasri received this honorary D. Litt. degree for his inimitable contributions in the fields of corporate and social missions, at a magnificent ceremony. At the filled-to-the-capacity auditorium of the Multipurpose Building of the Lalit Narain Mithila University, the degree was handed over by His Excellency the Governor of Bihar, Hon'ble Shri Devanand Konwar. On this occasion Sahara India Pariwar's Deputy Managing Worker and Saharsri's wife Mrs. Swapna Roy too was present.
On this occasion, the Governor of Bihar and Chancellor of Universities, Hon'ble Shri Devanand Konwar stated that by awarding this honorary D. Litt. degree to Mr. Subrata Roy Sahara, the Lalit Narain Mithila University and the land of Mithila are themselves feeling honoured. It is the first time that the Lalit Narain Mithila University, established in 1972, has awarded the honorary D. Litt. degree to any achiever for his social and corporate contributions. Hon'ble Shri Devanand Konwar stated that Mr. Subrata Roy Sahara is a highly deserving receiver for this honour. I am happy to be honouring him with my own hands. The Hon'ble Governor added that Mr. Subrata Roy Sahara is not just a corporate figure; he is also a social worker. Sahara India Pariwar stands equal to Indian Railways in providing employment to people of our nation. Receiving the highest honorary educational degree in the land like a student, Saharasri Subrata Roy Sahara stated that it is an amazing and happy coincidence that I had started to learn my alphabet at Darbhanga's Hasan Chowk way back in 1951 and today I am receiving an honorary D. Litt. degree at the same land. Addressing the 206 students from various departments and courses who were receiving their D. Litt., Ph. D. or post graduate degrees alongside him, he said that he is feeling really happy on this occasion to describe this happiness and he does not feel deserving of such a high honorary degree because it is a lofty task to give or receive an honour.
Prior to this, the Chief Guest of the Convocation ceremony and the famous Gandhian philosopher Dr. Razi Ahmad too addressed the gathering. Apart from this, Vice Chancellor Dr. Samarendra Pratap Singh invited the Governor and the Chancellor of Universities, Hon'ble Shri Devanand Konwar and Gandhian philosopher Dr. Razi Ahmad to the stage. The Convocation was also attended by ex- Vice Chancellor Dr. B. N. Singh and Registrar Dr. Vimal Kumar.
