St. Petersburg, Florida (PressExposure) November 11, 2011 -- Dr. Tiffany Jessee, a bariatric surgeon in Florida with Sun Coast Bariatrics has brought Dr. Robyn Ache, another female surgeon, on board with her team, making them the only two female bariatric surgeons in Florida. Dr. Ache has worked with Dr. Jessee for the last five years at Largo Medical Center, Indian Rocks Campus where Dr. Ache completed her internship and surgical residency.
When asked about her role as a female surgeon, Dr. Ache said, "I think that female surgeons tend to be a little better at empathizing with their patients and can have a softer bedside manner. Women are often more nurturing by nature and this comes across when they are dealing with surgical patients."
A graduate of Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Dr. Ache will join Dr. Jessee in performing gastric band procedures, including the LAP-BAND and Realize bands, using the SPIDER Surgical Platform, a technique that Dr. Jessee was first in the world to use. Although Dr. Ache is also a general surgeon, she has a true passion for bariatric surgery or weight loss surgery.
"I love bariatric surgery because it has such a profound effect on people's lives. It is incredibly rewarding to see people who were debilitated by illnesses related to obesity being able to truly live again," Dr. Ache said.
Dr. Ache will continue to work closely with Dr. Jessee as the two women set a high bar for bariatric surgery in Florida and across the country.
Sun Coast Bariatrics performs weight loss surgery in Florida and is proud to be affiliated with Palms of Pasadena Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. The Bariatrics team at Palms of Pasadena performs more than 350 surgeries every year. In addition to the adjustable gastric band surgeries that Dr. Jessee focuses on exclusively, the program offers the more traditional Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and gastric sleeve procedures.
