New Port Richey, Florida (PressExposure) February 21, 2011 -- Sun Toyota, one of the most trusted and popular Toyota dealers in New Port Richey, Florida, is proud to be sponsoring the 2011 season of the Friends of Music concert series at Sunset Beach in Tarpon Springs.
The free open-air concert series has grown increasingly popular over its 11-year run. The Friends of Music on Sunset Beach, which is responsible for planning the concert in conjunction with the Tarpon Springs recreation division, will be bringing in both new and returning performers each "full moon Thursday" between February and November.
The concert usually draws a crowd in excess of 1,000. As a further draw for performers, the Thursday evening concerts take place on what can be a slow night of the week for area musicians. Those attending the concerts can bring their own food and further enhance their enjoyment of the music and the scenic beauty of the sun setting on the Gulf of Mexico.
As a convenience for concert goers, a free shuttle bus has been arranged to run between Sunset Beach and the parking lot at Tarpon Springs High School, located at 1411 Gulf Road. Each concert starts at sunset.
Here is the 2011 series schedule:
Feb 17: The Rockaways, a Beatles tribute band
March 24: Slick Slide, a classic rock band
April 21: The Tarpon Springs High School Jazz Ensemble
May 19: De Lie'ed Parrots, a Jimmy Buffett tribute band
June 16: Little Big Show, acoustic rock
July 14: Backwater Blues, a new band to the series, blues and rock
Aug 18: Charlie Morris Band, blues and rock
Sept. 15: Roadhouse, a rock band
Oct 13: The Straight Up Blues Band, the blues
Nov. 10: Lil Pearl and the Big Boys, classic R&B and rock.
At the first and the last concert of the series, there will be a bonfire, complete with a showing of the movie, "The Wall". Bonfire admission is $5 person. Shoebox bricks, at $1 each, will be used to build a wall that will be torn down after the movie as a prelude to the sale of the 30 year old, R-rated film.
