Sustainable Landscaping Products To Be Showcased At Garden+Landscaping Middle East 2010

Dubai, India (PressExposure) October 27, 2010 -- Increasing awareness on the need to protect the environment along with the recent directive from the UAE Government on compliance with green building standards is boosting demand for sustainable garden and landscaping products.

At Garden+Landscaping Middle East taking place next week green gardening and sustainable landscaping products will be showcased to keep trade visi-tors, architects and garden and landscaping designers aware of the latest trends in the field. The trade exhibition will be held next week from October 31 to November 2, 2010 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Ahmed Pauwels, Chief Executive Officer of Epoc Messe Frankfurt GmbH, organisers of Garden+Landscaping Middle East, said: "There is growing awareness among developers and designers on the advantages of using na-tive plants for landscaping which cuts down on water wastage. With more recent regulations being implemented to control irrigation and other factors in garden landscapes, there is an increased need for expertise in this area in Dubai and the wider region." Up to a quarter of all water used for irrigation is wasted because of poor plant choice. Plant selection is very important as between 20 and 25% of irrigation water in the UAE can be lost as it drains down to the water table.

Ms. Mehtap Kenar, Senior Show Manager, Garden+Landscaping Middle East, commented: "There is a growing trend to incorporate sustainable building principles among architects and developers worldwide. Constructed in line with high environmental standards, sustainable buildings are engineered to make optimum use of resources. This minimises energy requirements and reduces water consumption and wastage. These buildings are designed to be resource efficient and to enhance the natural environment and physical well-being of the users."

"While opting for sustainable landscaping, developers should also take care to create an attractive environment that is suitable for local climatic conditions and thus requires minimal inputs of fertilisers, water, pesticides etc. Sustainable landscaping should thus be appropriately designed so as to be cost efficient, visually pleasing, environmentally friendly and easy to maintain," Ms Kenar added.

Current trends in sustainable landscaping include: the reduction of stormwater run-off through the use of bio-swales, rain gardens, green roofs and walls; the use of permeable paving materials to reduce stormwater run-off and allow rain water to infiltrate into the ground and replenish groundwater.

Other trends include the reduction of water use in landscapes through design of water-wise garden techniques; water conservation techniques through rainwater harvesting; integrated pest management techniques for pest control; and energy-efficient landscape design such as the proper placement and selection of shade trees and the creation of wind breaks.

Garden+Landscaping Middle East which will run from Sunday to Tuesday next week (October 31st to November 2nd) will display a comprehensive range of garden machinery, tools, furniture, water features, pond accessories and fertilisers right through to swimming pools, landscaping tools, architectural landscaping and irrigation systems.
