Woodburn, OR (PressExposure) May 17, 2011 -- Acclaimed as a deal "almost too good to be true" for potential English teachers bringing their craft and efforts to schools throughout China, TEFL International and Disney English have combined resources to offer virtually all-expenses-paid travel and training for teachers embarking on an English language training career in China.
Under the new program, potential teachers will pay only US $200 to cover transportation and miscellaneous administrative costs to receive their Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certification; the two-week, comprehensive courses normally cost approximately US $1400. Under the joint partnership, new teachers will work as part of Disney English, an educational program that seeks to spread English language skills throughout China by using stories, songs, games, and group activities incorporating well-known Disney characters.
Following the successful completion of their TESOL training at TEFL International's course center in Ban Phe, Thailand, candidates will receive additional paid training at a Disney English center in China. All travel costs are covered by the program, including flights to both Thailand and China. New teachers can expect to be assigned to one of the many Disney English centers in cities such as Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou, and Nanjing.
Teachers who successfully complete the Disney English program will be guaranteed job placement and a monthly salary/housing allowance of 14,000 Renminbi in addition to paid vacation time and health benefits. Students at the centers range between two and twelve years of age, and Chinese-fluent teacher's assistants are also present at class meetings depending on students' ages and skill levels.
A spokesman for TEFL International says the organization hopes to attract a particular type of aspiring teacher with this program. "We're looking for energetic, highly enthusiastic people with any kind of teaching, training, or mentoring experience," explains Bruce Veldhuisen, Founder and Chief Executive Officer. "We are especially searching for those teachers with a background in the performing arts to take advantage of this extraordinary career opportunity."
TESOL Certification classes begin in June and continue through September, with TEFL International hoping to send the first 28 course graduates to China by the end of July. Interested candidates should apply for the Disney English program through TEFL International's website.
