Glenorchy, Australia (PressExposure) October 21, 2009 -- TOTE Tasmania has launched its new sports betting business â BETASPORT (pronounced Bet-A-Sport).
Chief Executive Officer Craig Coleman said BETASPORT would commence operations on 30 May 2009, replacing TAB Sportsbet.
âWe will be offering our customers a wider range of sports betting options than currently offered, including better. fixed odds thoroughbred coverage, and looking to introduce improvements to our web site to make it even more user friendly for sport punters,â he said.
âThe move to operate our own sports betting business means TOTE Tasmania is becoming a more sports-centric business.
âSports betting is a major growth area, not only in Australia but internationally.â
In 2007/08 TOTE Tasmania sports betting turnover grew by 164 per cent compared to the previous financial year.
While this growth was achieved off a relatively low base, it amounted to nearly $19 million in turnover, and this year will deliver even more substantial growth through online sports betting.
Mr Coleman said the BETASPORT brand was initially developed with a Tasmanian audience in mind, but had the capacity to become a national and international brand.
Mr Coleman said while he expected AFL to continue to be TOTE Tasmaniaâs most popular type of sports bet, in addition to a greater range of sports offered for wagering, BETASPORT would allow customers to bet on election results and entertainment, including the Logies and the Academy Awards.
The pre-launch advertising campaign was initiated and TOTE Tasmania has provided further information directly to existing customers and account holders.
A new phone number â 13 BETA (13 2382) â has been established for TOTE Tasmania telephone sports betting customers.
